sweetdust:

First of all, REVIEWING in a REVIEW CENTER is NOT that necessary. Although they will teach you tehniques on how to outsmart an exam, what questions may appear, or how to answer raipdly a question, you won’t be able to remember them all during your exam. Your greatest weapon is WHAT YOU LEARNED DURING YOUR PREVIOUS YEARS IN HIGH SCHOOL, AND HOW YOU UNDERSTOOD THEM. That’s the things that are important during an exam. And it’s true. You can also use STOCK KNOWLEDGE. It’s quite effective.

1. UNIVERSITY OF THE PHILIPPINES (UP - UPCAT)

- There is something I might remind you first. This exam is hard core. Math questions are mostly worded problems in algebra, science problems are situational especially biology and chemisty, and there are so many proper use of English language questions. If you want to pass in UP DILIMAN and UP MANILA, I heard (don’t blame me!! I just heard!!) you need a higher UNIVERSITY PREDICTED GRADE. What is that? It’s your grade of course, in the UPCAT. If you put UP DILIMAN and UP MANILA in your application, you should get a matter of 2.1 and higher (MANILA) or 2.0 and higher (DILIMAN). Although the campuses besides that, UP LOS BANOS, UP BAGUIO, UP PAMPANGA, are also campuses that needs high UPG. I heard you need to earn 2.4, 2.5 or 2.6 and above. That’s really quite challenging, and it’s not EASY! Your passing depends on what campus(es) you put on your application and your UPG, if it matches your campus choice.

Although you also need to watch out for what course you’re going to apply for. There are quota courses. In quota courses, students must race to the number of students needed in the list. E.g. they need only 3,000 freshmen in BS Nursing.. although you passed, if your grade is below others, then maybe you won’t get up to that 3,000 and you’ll end up on waiting list. But it’s not really something to be worried of. You just need to think straight during the exam, don’t sleep, answer with all your wisdom and knowledge, and with the help of God, you will pass however hard it is.

Experience? I took the UPCAT, but I didn’t pass in my choice campus which is UP DILIMAN and UP MANILA. So you can say my UPG did not get any higher than 2.1. (haha.. it’s just a little below 2.1)

2. ATENEO DE MANILA UNIVERSITY (ADMU - ACET)

I guess if you’re really a fast reader, and you do good in English and Math, you have a chance here. There are two major parts of the exam: Math proficiency and English proficiency. You need to answer the questions with speed because what you’ll fight with is the time limit. Oh gee, you will really tremble to your knees when you still haven’t finished the questions and the proctor says STOP ANSWERING, CLOSE YOUR BOOKLETS! The English proficiency contains usual grammatical questions and reading comprehension. The Math.. well, it’s all jumbled. Algebra, Logarithm, Algebra..Algebra.. Algebra.. Yeah, so you get my point. Right? Oh, and I forgot. In the end of your English proficiency test, there is an essay. The topic will be for surprise, but you can do it.. just not put too much time answering the questions because you just don’t know.. you might be thinking of something to write in your essay with 5MINUTES LEFT. The last part is the basic knowledge. Jumbled topics. Per part is for only 5 minutes with 25-30 questions. AND THAT IS NERVE WRACKING. Prepare to fight with your trembling hands and your slow moving eyes. You need speed in answering.

I don’t know how you could pass here, because there are no grades announced in the exam… but there are quota courses. So I guess you just need to do good.

Experience? Hmm. This is my dream school. I didn’t pass. Too bad. But I realized this is not the school that God wanted me to attend in. So I accepted. And to tell you, I only spent 10 minutes writing my English essay with too much erasures! Hey you, avoid making erasures in your essay, and put in proper margins and indentions!

3. UNIVERSITY OF SANTO TOMAS (UST - USTET)

Ahh. This is my favorite. Math problems are all about Geometry, and algebra as simply as “FIND X” in an equation. The other parts are also no problem for you. Just don’t try to sleep on the exam and focus on the questions. Don’t belittle this USTET, although it’s kind of easy, if you lack concentration, you’ll fail but if you really did good and answered correctly, you will pass both of your choice courses. There are three batches of this exam, Batch 1 (August), Batch 2 (October), Batch 3 (December).  I guess the easier is the one on August because you only need to deal with questions regarding your last 3 years in HS. But in batch 2 and 3, there are already questions regarding Senior Year lessons. But wherever you’re comfortable, it doesn’t matter, really.

Experience? I didn’t plan on going here. But I ended up so. I’m now enrolled here. I passed my choice course (yeeeey!) and I hope you do too! Just focus and concentrate… ‘kay? :D

4. DE LA SALLE UNIVERSITY (DLSU - DLSUCET)

From my friends, I heard this exam is all jumbled questions. Just there is a time limit, but all the questions are jumbled. Once in a while, you will see English, or Math.. or Science.. So yeah. And there are a lot of confusing reading comprehension questions. I can’t really elaborate how the exam is because I didn’t take DLSUCET. But I heard rants from my friends, of course. How to pass this? I don’t know..I guess just.. Don’t get sleepy on the exam. I heard from my friend that you will srsly get sleepy.

Experience? As I told you, I did not take DLSUCET. But you can tumblr ask a friend of mine, @angelicperiwinkle and ask her how her exam went. She’s pretty friendly and she’ll definitely answer your questions.

NOTES: I hope this helped. And to people who won’t agree with me here, especially on the UP part, if you think it’s bogus, hahaha.. lol, sorry, that’s what I’ve heard, and that’s just what I know. I admire people who pass in UP wherever campus it is, because I know how hard the exam was. What I said in other schools, also, that’s only what I experienced (if stated) or what I’ve heard from my friends. If you have more questions, if you want to ask about other schools besides the BIG4U, you can tumblr ask me. Have a sweet day guys!

The University of the Philippines Diliman (UPD) will confer upon President Benigno S. Aquino III an honorary degree Doctor of Laws at its 100th General Commencement Exercises to be held at the University Amphitheater on April 17.

President Aquino will receive UP’s highest academic rank and honor “For providing leadership in rallying the people to stamp out corruption, campaigning for institutional reforms, and creating an environment for agencies, including the Armed Forces of the Philippines, to act with dispatch on malfeasance in government, promote the rule of law, and respect people’s constitutional rights,” among others.

Aquino is the 13th head of state to receive an honorary degree from UP. Other former Philippine presidents conferred with Doctor of Laws were Manuel L. Quezon (March 16, 1929), Sergio Osmeña (March 25, 1930), Emilio F. Aguinaldo (June 12, 1953), Ramón D.F. Magsaysay (April 5, 1955), Carlos P.
